COUTTOLENC

Diverse versions exist on the supposed origin of the surname in question, but it is not completely proven that is an or other "theory" the authentic line that guides on the mysterious emergence of this French lineage. What gets me the attention on the investigations carried out by those people of distant countries, and of such a diverse culture the one of the other one, is that they have been presented the opportunity to reach an agreement and to achieve oneself objective: to give to know the history of their ancestors (I still find difficult to understand the stranger possibility that here was presented). But there were some details that, to my way of seeing the things, deliberately they hid... small history fragments that they didn't want to show to the light for some reason...

I will explain how it was that it interested me what has been placed in Internet on the Couttolenc surname. During the days that it began the month of August (2003), idly I scored in a searcher the form in that formerly my surname was written (Couto) to verify the results that the Internet would offer me; after appearing a group of options, it got me the attention that my surname was mentioned in the places of Internet www.genealogy.com and www.ancestry.com as part of a "variant", according to those "message boards" opened up in these places (http://genforum.genealogy.com/couto/ and http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/board/an/surnames.couto). This intrigued me very much, because already had me my own notions on my genealogy, so I decided to enter to each message placed in these spaces until finding an address where later it would read on those "variants" that were formed starting from the Couto surname of Portugal (http://genforum.genealogy.com/couto/messages/17.html and http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/message/an/surnames.couto/3.1). Truly very interesting; however, there were not tangible tests of what made sure in the investigations captured in those "Couttolenc Sites". Or at least, I had not found this tests, until I had in front of me to the person that has put this information in the Internet.

The doubts that arose me regarding my surname when reading those "Couttolenc sites", they cleared up little by little when sharing me some information via e-mail with the maker of these spaces; but now my doubts were regarding the truthfulness of the Couttolenc surname, because the own investigator made notice that the coat of arms that shows doesn't have some foundation like to assure that it is or not the original. This way, and as well as would make it my homonymous, Fernanda Do Coutto, I took advantage of the occasion in that I visited the veracruzan lands to contact to the responsible one of gathering the data that so much intrigued me. I never hoped to have such a disposition and cooperation, very in spite of commenting him the reason of my presence before him: to show him deliberately that their investigations were not well guided and that their informations were so extraordinarily exact that I opted to take the posture of that French genealogist that at some time it indicated him that this precisions generated him more uncertainties and doubts that successes.

For my surprise, Mr. Couttolenc not only showed me from where he had taken the data, but rather it indicated me the places of Internet that he visited to sustain their "theories" and, finally, it placed before me the publications that he had taken of base to arm the whole history of its ancestors... it is here where I found that this man had more data of those than it was showing in his pages of Internet, and that in fact he didn't only have the possibility of "to arm" those three "emergence theories" that has mentioned in his particular place, but rather there was a couple of more possibilities... but he didn't understand the reason for which had discriminated against this information. I understood it until the moment in that allowed me to witness some of their chats through of Internet, when he communicated with some of the many Couttolenc that he has in their list of contacts... it was not for him that this information had been "censored", but for a small group of people... surprisingly, for those that didn't offer him any information, but that, to say in the own words that they usually write him, they know "a lot more than what can be written in anyone of the Couttolenc sites".

I didn't understand this attitude, but some words drew a smile in my face. There were data that, for example, they had to be eliminated of the original structure of the page inscribed in FREESERVERS, because a wealthy Couttolenc requested them not to be specified "precise geographical locations of those that we have an economic solvency outside of the normal thing"; before this petition, my host commented that this person surely thought that he could be the target of some kidnapping or of another ambush type that put in danger his life; however, in their same words, the objective of the investigation was not to give to know positions, they were already geographical or economic, of some of the descendants of this surname, but simply to give to know from where originated its breed.

It is very for sure that wealthy Couttolenc ignores what I until that moment also ignored: there was a Couttolenc in the veracruzan region, of that he is native which left in last times a lot of blood for the form in that it had been made of wealth: it was a very dangerous attacker that traveled the well-known districts of Orizaba, Córdoba and the port of Veracruz. These data were not captured by diverse reasons: there was not the security that this fact outside real, as well as neither he had been able to corroborate verbally before with other people of the cities mentioned. In fact, I was commented that situations like this they could not be placed in the places because it would damage the integrity severely of those that, probably, they were descending of the mentioned character. Later I would find out, also that very probably the Couttolenc surname had not originated of none in the ways exposed in the sites http://www.couttolenc.freeservers.com and http://www.couttolenc.8m.com, but rather it could have had a worthy origin of being hidden and sealed their history in the same trunk of which was possibly formed the wealth of those that began the genealogical tree of this family, fact that it forced Joseph-Antoine to escape embarrassed of their homeland and, possibly, of their family name; this it is the part of the history that maybe offers the answer to the original situation that the first barceloneta arrived in Mexico without more resources than its hands, its integrity and the stability of its ideals lived.
